Preserving heritage. Reviving fields. Empowering communities.

We are bringing abandoned Apatani paddy fields back to life — reviving the traditional paddy-cum-fish system, encouraging a second crop and working shoulder to shoulder with the community.

The Apatani way

One field, rice and fish together

In the traditional Apatani paddy-cum-fish system, fish are raised in the same flooded terraces that grow rice — one carefully kept plot providing both grain and fish for the household.

When fields fall out of use, this knowledge fades with them. By restoring abandoned plots and farming them the traditional way, we keep the practice alive in the place it belongs, and pass it on to the next generation.

  1. 01

    Water

Fields stay flooded through the growing season, as they have for generations.

  2. 02

    Rice

Seedlings are planted by hand in restored, levelled plots.

  3. 03

    Fish

Fish are raised alongside the crop in the same water.
